First Day of School

Lunches are packed, backpacks are filled with new supplies and buses will begin rolling in and around Bloomfield as the Bloomfield Hills Schools and most area private schools officially start the 2013-14 school year Tuesday.

Rosh Hashanah

The Jewish high holiday of Rosh Hashanah, signifying the start of the Jewish New Year, begins at sundown Wednesday night and is celebrated through Thursday.
 

Pizza and Pages at Baldwin

The Baldwin Public Library invites local teens for free pizza and great reads for this event starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5. Be among the first 15 teens to register and get a free copy of the "book of the month" at the Adult Services desk. This month's selection is “The Scorpio Races” by Maggie Stiefvater.

First Thursday Open Studio 

Epiphany Glass, located just beyond the Bloomfield Township border at 770 Orchard Lake Rd., in Pontiac invites the public to witness glass blowing demonstrations by its talented artists from 4-9 p.m. Thursday. Michigan’s first and only 100% vegan food truck, Shimmy Shack will serve hot and fresh food from 4:30-7:30 p.m.

Breakfast with Superintendents 

Join Rob Glass, superintendent of the Bloomfield Hills Schools, and Dr. Daniel Nerad, superintendent of the Birmingham Public Schools for a community discussion about the state of public education and local issues impacting both districts moderated by Bloomfield-Bloomfield Hills Patch Editor Art Aisner. The event begins at 8 a.m. at the Birmingham Public Schools Administration Building, and registration is open and available on the Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce website.
