Aggregate Industries Celebrates Centennial Anniversary with Environmental Project
Chelsea employees partnered with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to clean up the Waterloo Recreation Area.

CHELSEA — Aggregate Industries US, a Holcim Group Company, is marking the centennial anniversary of its parent company in 2012 with Together for Communities, a year-long initiative in which employees lead local volunteer projects.
Employees from several local facilities recently partnered with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to clean up the Waterloo Recreation Area.

The volunteers removed 53 bags of spotted knapweed to restore the prairie remnant of the land. Removing the plant is essential to maintaining the integrity of the ecosystem and will allow for sustained growth in the area.
“It’s great to have so much of this invasive, non-native plant pulled out of this special area and we couldn’t have done it without Aggregate Industries’ help,” said Laurel Malvitz-Draper, natural resource steward at Michigan DNR. “With the plants being ahead of schedule this year, our window for pulling spotted knapweed was much shorter. Without the group’s assistance, a lot of the knapweed would have gone to seed.”

Holcim Ltd hopes to engage as many of its 80,000 worldwide employees as possible to volunteer for one day in their community. Because Holcim recognizes employees have unique knowledge of their communities, each project is employee-led and geared toward local needs.
