Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Membership Meeting Set for Thursday

The chamber will honor the Purple Rose Theatre and Chelsea Lanes as the big and small businesses of the year.

The Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce will recognize two businesses in the community for their philanthropic contributions on Feb. 21.

The Purple Rose Theatre, founded by actor Jeff Daniels, is the recipient of the 2012 Large Business of the Year award.

Chelsea Lanes, known throughout the community for hosting bowling fundraisers and events for local charities, was named the 2012 Small Business of the Year.

The annual business awards are presented to two chamber members that demonstrate an ability to advocate for the business community and promote and develop a vital business environment in Chelsea, Bob Pierce, executive director of the chamber of commerce said.

Businesses are selected through a public nomination process and voted on by past award recipients. Criteria for the award includes any business that displays innovative ideas and services; contributes to the economic impact of the city; provides services that meet the needs of the Chelsea area community; and enhances the uniqueness of the community image.

Both businesses were notified of their respective awards during a surprise presentation on Jan. 16. The Purple Rose and Chelsea Lanes will be recognized formally Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Village Conference Center in the Chelsea Comfort Inn.
