Chelsea's Yellow Door Chefs Host Benefit Lunch for Waterloo Natural History Association

A fundraiser luncheon will take place March 2 at the Chelsea Alehouse.

The Chelsea Yellow Door chefs are back, serving up a special luncheon to benefit the Waterloo Natural History Association on March 2.

The fundraiser will take place from noon to 2 p.m. at the Chelsea Alehouse, located in the Clocktower Complex in downtown Chelsea. Proceeds from the event will help cover the cost of replacing the boardwalks at the Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center.

The boardwalks were built in the 1970s using recycled lumber from a former military barracks. After decades of use, the wooden planks need to be replaced prior to the spring.

The lunch fundraiser is open to the public. Guests are asked to donate $15 in exchange for a meal prepared from local ingredients by the Alehouse chefs. The goal is to raise $5,000.

“We have never done a Yellow Door lunch and we are excited to partner with the Chelsea Alehouse Brewery,” program co-founder Jane Pacheco said. “Chris and Aubrey Martinson at the Alehouse are very anxious to host this event, and besides donating the space, supplies, labor and their chefs, they also will donate a percentage of their sales from that day after the event to the WNHA.”

The menu features two options: Michigan roast beef sammie on a baguette with horseradish cream cheese spread served with kettle cooked potato chips and The Brinery's turnip pickles; or pulled pork on a challah bun served with chips and pickles. Beverages include coffee and milk.

A selection of Alehouse beers will be available for an additional cost.

“Yellow Door is a great organization, with lots of loyal followers,” WNHS board member Meg Gower said. "It is a wonderful offer to have this project be one of their recipients.”

Through the generosity of local sponsors, all food costs have been covered for the benefit. All donations will go directly to the WNHA.

If you would like to donate but cannot attend the event on Saturday, you may mail a check to: Waterloo Natural History Association, 17030 Bush Road, Chelsea, MI. 48118. All donations are tax deductible.
