Chelsea Woman Takes Grandma's Car, Crashes on I-94

The following information was supplied by the Chelsea Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

A 21-year-old Chelsea woman stole her grandmother's vehicle and crashed it on I-94 on Dec. 24.

The woman was transported to Chelsea Community Hospital for treatment, according to the Chelsea Police Department, but left the hospital before receiving a medical evaluation.

According to police reports, the woman's grandmother told police she first noticed her vehicle missing at about 5 p.m. near the 100 block of North Main St., but she wasn't sure who took it until her granddaughter called from the hospital around 11 p.m.

The vehicle owner is pursuing criminal charges against her granddaughter, who did not have a valid driver's license at the time of the crash, police said.

The case remains open pending review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office.
