City Of Chelsea Implements Seasonal Weight Restrictions

Based on unpredictable weather conditions, the Act also allows road jurisdictions to implement these restrictions earlier.

Season weight restrictions help to protect streets from damage caused by heavy vehicle loads during winter and spring freeze thaw cycles. Pursuant to Act 300 of the Public Acts of 1949, as amended, being MCL 257.722, seasonal weight restrictions are placed during the months of March, April, and May in each year.

Based on unpredictable weather conditions, the Act also allows road jurisdictions to implement these restrictions earlier, later or even suspend the restrictions all together. In order to have consistency countywide, the City of Chelsea adopts the same season weight restrictions period as the Washtenaw County Road Commission (www.wcroads.org). During seasonal weight restrictions, most of the streets within the City of Chelsea are affected. Delivery trucks can still use the restricted streets but only if their weight limits and speeds do not exceed the maximums set in MCL 257.722 of the Act.
