Dexter, Chelsea Churches Offer Ash Wednesday Services

In the Christian Church, Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, the season of preparation for the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. Here is a look at service schedules for churches in the Dexter area.

Dexter

• St. Joseph Catholic Church

Mass with ashes will take place at the village church, 3430 Dover St. in Dexter, at 8:15 a.m. A scripture service and ashes will take place at the village church at 12:15 p.m. There will also be mass and ashes at the country church, 6805 Mast Rd. in Dexter, at 7 p.m.

• Dexter United Methodist Church

Ash Wednesday service will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the church. A fellowship dinner will take place at 5:30 p.m.

• Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church
  

Ash Wednesday service will take place at 7:30 p.m.

• St. Andrew's United Church of Christ

Ash Wednesday service will take place at 7 p.m.

• Peace Lutheran Church

Ash Wednesday dinner will be held at 6 p.m. followed by a service at 7 p.m.

• Webster United Church of Christ

The church will hold a pancake and sausage dinner open to the public at 6 p.m. followed by Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m.

• St. James Episcopal Church

St. James Episcopal Church will have an Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. The church is located at 3279 Broad St. in Dexter.

Chelsea

• First Congregational Church of Chelsea

Ash Wednesday worship service at 7 p.m.

• Chelsea First United Methodist Church

Soup and supper for Ash Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. Ash Wednesday service at 6:30 p.m.

• St. Barnabas Episcopal Church

Ash Wednesday service, 7:30 p.m.

• St. Mary Parish

Ashes will be distributed at 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Ashes are available in the office on Ash Wednesday only for those whose schedule does not permit them to attend one of the masses.
