How did your business come to be?: Upon graduating with an interior design degree, I have practiced interior design for 23 years. This includes contract and residential design. After working for a design firm in downtown Ann Arbor, and as a designer for a commercial company based in Grand Rapids, Kitty & Company was launched 6 years ago. Mostly I work with residential clients, but have designed some light commercial spaces as well.

What kind of services do you offer?: I am a full service Interior Design Salon - meaning I am capable of helping clients with any aspect of the inside of their home. A few examples: New Construction Space Plans (inlcuding furniture, finishes etc); Remodeling / Renovations- Space Plans; Furniture Selections; Paint and other finishes; Lighting Plans and selections; Kitchen and Bathroom Plans; Art and Accessories. I will help a client with as much or as little as they need - from strictly a paint consultation, or fireplace elevation to an entire home remodel.
What's a fact about your business that most customers probably don't know?: I produce hand drawings of your space to show you the design plans. Hand drawings & drafting are key to envisioning your space and are unfortunately becoming a lost art in the world of computers.
What do you want your business to be best known for?: Developing a trusting and understanding relationship with my clients. I am in my clients homes (including their personal spaces) and I have the privilege of getting to know them and their families. I do not take for granted that they are putting a great deal of trust in me. Many of my clients I've designed for, for many years and we continue to work on projects in their existing home, or we've moved to design their office, a new home, or even a second home or cottage.
What's your most popular product or service?: Most clients will hire me for a complete remodeling or home addition project, from conception to completion. This means, I create the remodeled floor plans, and design the way it will look, from flooring to cabinetry, lighting, wall finishes and everything else. As the actual building/ remodeling starts I continue to communicate and meet with the client and the contractor(s) through the entire process. This is an efficient way to use my services.
When was the business founded?: Kitty & Company was founded in 2006. Currently I can be found at www.houzz.com/pro/kitcompany/kittycompany-interior-design-llc, Kitty Golding is a registered Interior Designer with the State of Michigan.
Why did you choose to locate to Chelsea? My business is based from my home. I am a service oriented business, and mostly I meet with the client(s) in their homes. We live in the Chelsea Area and our kids attend Chelsea schools. There are many opportunities to be involved locally to support organizations, and I've been able to give design consultations to local charities and such for fundraising efforts in the past years. The town of Chelsea has so much of what I need for clients right in town, Chelsea Lumber, Chelsea Plank Flooring, Heydlauffs Appliances.
