North Oakland Dixieland Band to Celebrate Mardi Gras at Kaleidoscope Concert Series in Chelsea
The band will perform classic jazz songs on Feb. 12 during a free concert in Chelsea.

Silver Maples of Chelsea will celebrate Mardi Gras with a special concert featuring the North Oakland Dixieland Jazz Band on Feb. 12.
βUsually the Kaleidoscope Concert Series is on the third Tuesday, but since Mardi Gras falls on the second Tuesday, we moved the concert up a week,β said Shawn Personke, director of activities and public relations for Silver Maples.
Sometimes known as βhot jazz,β Dixieland jazz developed in New Orleans around the 1900s and spread to Chicago and New York. The North Oakland Dixieland Jazz Band repertoire includes music from Louis Armstrong, as well as many other traditional jazz groups from the early jazz era. The group includes a four horn section composed of clarinet, cornet, tenor sax and trombone. The rhythm section includes piano, tuba, banjo and drums.
