Police: Customer Steals Gold Locket from Chelsea Business

The Chelsea Police Department is searching for a suspect who removed a vintage, 18-karat gold locket from a Chelsea retailer on Oct. 25.

Police were called to the 6000 block of Sibley Road at about 2 p.m. after employees noticed the locket missing from a locked case inside the store.

According to police records, store employees stated that a customer came into the store and requested to examine some jewelry. The customer looked at several pieces before making a purchase. The employee collected the pieces that were not purchased and placed the items back in the case. The following day, the owner noticed the locket missing from the display case.

On Oct. 27, officers with the Chelsea Police Department were dispatched to the 500 block of South Main Street in response to a property damage complaint. Upon arrival, officers met with the parties involved and determined that one of the drivers involved in the crash was possibly under the influence of alcohol.

The suspect, a 30-year-old Livonia man, was placed under arrest for operating under the influence of alcohol and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail. The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's
Office.

Larceny from a Building

A woman reported her purse stolen near the 1300 block of South Main Street on Oct. 22. According to police reports, the woman stated that she had left her purse in the lobby of her office building and went into another room for a meeting. When she returned to the lobby area, she noticed her purse was missing. The case is under investigation.
