SRSLY Chelsea Rings in 2013 with Record Turnout at New Year's Eve Party

Families from Chelsea, Dexter and surrounding communities celebrated the start of 2013 with a substance-free party at Beach Middle School.

SRSLY Chelsea, a community coalition established to prevent destructive behavior in Chelsea youth, held its 5th annual New Year’s Eve Party at Beach Middle School on Dec. 31.

More than 500 children and families from Chelsea and surrounding communities attended the event. Participants enjoyed live music from local teen bands, as well as a dance presentation from the Youth Dance Theatre of Michigan

Partygoers swam in the pool, played in the open gym, voted in the chili cook-off, created party hats, danced to a DJ mixing music, decorated cookies, enjoyed group games, and played video games.

“The party would not have been the success that it was without such broad community support,” Jesse Kauffman, SRSLY program coordinator said in a press release.

“The many business sponsors and overflow of volunteers made it clear that this community cares about helping kids have substance-free fun," she said.
