(CLAWSON – OCTOBER 8, 2024) Gunnar Gonyea, 17, of Clawson, MI, has earned Scouting America’s highest advancement award, the Eagle Scout Award. Gonyea will be recognized in ceremonies this fall.

A member of Troop 1615, chartered with The Church @ Clawson, Gonyea is one of only approximately 6 percent of all Scouts who earn the Eagle rank, according to Scoutmaster Jeff Toenniges. Each candidate must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community-related service project to earn Eagle; Gonyea earned 29 merit badges, and planned and operated a dog adoption event for Detroit Dog Rescue, finding new homes for 4 dogs.

Gonyea is currently a senior at Clawson High School. He plans to pursue a college education in criminal justice and join the US Army. He is the son of James and Christine Gonyea of Clawson. Gunnar’s older brother, Gibson, is also an Eagle Scout.
