(CLAWSON – OCTOBER 30, 2024) James Sommerfeld, 17, of Royal Oak, MI, has earned Scouting America’s highest advancement award, the Eagle Scout Award. Sommerfeld will be recognized in ceremonies this fall.

A member of Clawson’s Troop 1615, chartered with The Church @ Clawson, Sommerfeld is one of only approximately 6 percent of all Scouts who earn the Eagle rank, according to Scoutmaster Jeff Toenniges. Each candidate must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community-related service project to earn Eagle; Sommerfeld earned 34 merit badges, and planned and installed landscaping improvements at his church.

Sommerfeld is currently a senior at Royal Oak High School. He plans to pursue a career as an automotive maintenance technician. He is the son of Stephan Sommerfeld of Royal Oak and Shannon McEwen of Waterford. Sommerfeld is Troop 1615’s fourth Scout to earn Eagle Scout this year.
