Children Learn Safe Practices at Safety Town

Youngsters age 3-5 began a series of workshops Monday that will teach them how to stay safe.

A group of 3- to 5-year-olds are learning safe practices through a program called Safety Town, sponsored by the Clawson Youth Assistance. Monday was the first day of the program, which runs through the first week of July.

teachers Kim Carpenter and Christine Hodge are leading courses that teach children about stranger safety, pool safety, bike safety, fire safety, street safety, bus safety and more. Teachers designed a Safety Town inside the cafeteria that models the city of Clawson. There are roads, municipal buildings, businesses and even street signs to guide the children during the safety activities.

Carpenter said the first day of Safety Town went well.
