Blow Up Michigan Fireworks Law, Clinton Township Residents Say

Residents of Clinton Township added their voices to criticism on MoveOn.org petition calling for repeal of Michigan's fireworks law.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI — Michigan’s fireworks law needs to be changed, no if’s and’s or but’s, in Gary M. Kissick’s opinion. The Clinton Township resident thinks something needs to be done sooner, rather than later.

“The fireworks law is being abused and ignored by thousands,” Kissick wrote in a Change.org petition. “Repeal and ban fireworks NOW!”

The fireworks tax brought in about $1.6 million in revenue last year, and the state isn’t likely to walk away from it without a battle — one the 35,000 people who have signed a petition to repeal Michigan’s fireworks law appear prepared to wage.

Diane Bowles: "I am in favor of repeal of the selling of fireworks in Michigan. We have had property damaged by fireworks. Neighborhoods are no place for fireworks to be used - leave it to the professionals at local festivals, etc."
