Clinton Township Man Keeps His Independence

A Clinton Township man disabled from muscular dystrophy fought to retain his medicaid rights.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI — Score one for a good guy. Chris Meadows, a Clinton Township man disabled by muscular dystrophy, recently won an appeal to keep his medicaid benefits. For the 39-year-old, it’s the difference between living independently and being forced into a skilled nursing care facility.

“After several agonizing weeks, which included hiring an attorney, going through the appeals process and obliging media requests, he was told by his caseworker that he won. They would approve the hours he requested for a caregiver, the Macomb Daily reported.
“I was so elated, I didn’t know what to say,” said Meadows, who appeared to be sitting a little higher in his wheelchair, with the burden of having to move out of his home and into a facility lifted off his shoulders. “My life has been for something, all of my hard work has not been for nothing.”
