Fraser Council Meets On Sexual Harassment Claims

Workers at Fraser city hall are claiming sexual harassment.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — Fraser City Council will meet behind closed doors Monday to discuss allegations of sexual harassment at city hall. Council is expected to hire attorney Thomas Fleury in open session at 6 p.m. and then move into closed session.

The number of sexual harassment complaints and details about the incident(s) surrounding them are unclear. Under Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act, public bodies are allowed to meet in closed session regarding personnel matters. It’s also unknown if any litigation has resulted from the complaints, but pending litigation is another criteria not subject to FOIA law.

Seeking comment for this report, The Macomb Daily has left messages for Fleury and Fraser City Manager D. Wayne O’Neal. The city’s regular legal counsel, attorneys John “Jack” Dolan and Timothy Tomlinson, also were not immediately available.
The workers’ complaints purportedly were forwarded to the Public Safety Department for an initial review. Public Safety Director George Rouhib said he could not comment on the allegations in part because it is a personnel matter.
