Brooks then picked up their 2-year-old son and held him at gunpoint, according to police.

When Clinton Township officers arrived, Brooks locked himself in a bedroom, "using his 2-year-old son as a human shield and pointing his gun at officers," according to police.

Brooks eventually surrendered and was arrested in connection with the incident, according to police.

Police said the child was not injured in the incident.

"The alleged actions of this individual are reprehensible," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said. "Such acts of violence are intolerable, and we will pursue justice to the fullest extent of the law to protect these victims and prevent further harm."
