Police Arrest Beef Thief; Search for Trio of Gamestop Shoplifters

Beef tenderloin thief arrested at Value Center

On Sept. 8, at approximately 2:11 p.m., a 60-year-old man was arrested for retail fraud at the Value Center Marketplace on Harper.

Store employees say they saw the man put three beef tenderloins in his jacket and attempt to leave without paying, according to police.

Employees say this is not the first time the man has attempted to shoplift beef. He has four prior arrests for retail fraud, according to police.

The man told police he took the beef to sell to another man who promised to pay him one-third the price, or approximately $10 each. This individual, who drove the suspect to the store, left before police arrived.

Search on for trio accused of shoplifting at Gamestop

On Sept. 8, at approximately 2 p.m., Gamestop employees reported to police that three black males had stolen some $350 worth of video games and game systems from the store.

Employees say the men entered the store and, while employees were busy, took the items from behind the counter. The men made no attempt to pay for the items, according to police.

The theft was reported after a manager viewed the store's surveillance tapes.

Police describe the men as follows:

  • Small build, with shoulder length braids and a white T-shirt
  • Medium build, with a black hoodie and baseball cap
  • Large build, with a dark shirt, black pants and white sneakers.

No arrests have been made in this case, according to police.

Woman attempts to shoplift $644 worth of cologne from Walmart

On Sept. 11, at approximately 5 p.m., a 30-year-old woman was arrested for retail fraud at the Walmart on Hall Road near Romeo Plank.

Store personnel told police they saw the woman put several boxes of cologne in her cart and later open the boxes to put the cologne in her backpack. The woman then attempted to leave the store, taking a Snapple and Hostess fruit pie with her – a total of $644 worth of merchandise, according to police.

The woman was detained by store security and arrested, according to police.

Woman assaults Rite Aid staff after thwarted shoplifting attempt

On Sept. 10, at approximately 3:17 p.m., a 29-year-old woman was arrested for retail fraud at the Rite Aid at 35250 Gratiot.

Store employees told police they saw the woman conceal three bottles of nail polish in her shoulder bag before attempting to leave the store without paying.

The woman was stopped and admitted to the attempted theft, but began to hit and push employees when she was asked to go to a back office to wait for police, according to reports.

A second individual, who is believed to have driven the woman to the store, left prior to the arrival of police.
