Search for 'Mad Hatter' Bank Robber Continues in Clinton Township
Clinton Township police continue to follow leads in the hope of identifying the man accused of robbing a Fifth Third Bank in August.
Two months later the search continues for a man Clinton Township police call the "Mad Hatter" in reference to the clothing he was wearing at the time he allegedly robbed a Fifth Third Bank.
Described by police as a white male in his mid 30s, the man was wearing a floppy white hat with a yellow hard hat on top and a bright yellow reflective vest when he entered the bank at Hayes and 18 Mile Road on Aug. 24.Β
Tellers told police he spent several minutes filling out a deposit slip before approaching the counter. Upon reaching the counter, he passed a note to the teller reading, βThis is a hold up.β The note indicated he didnβt want to hurt anyone but ordered that no dye packs be put in with the money, according to the police report.

The teller gave him $1,606 in cash, which the suspect put in a duffel bag before walking out. Surveillance video captured the robbery in its entirety.
The suspect is described as a white male in his mid 30s with a long red or blonde ponytail and scruffy facial hair. In addition to the construction gear he was wearing at the time, the man was reported to have been wearing a yellow/green long sleeve shirt, khaki pants, brown boots and black gloves.

Police have received several leads in this case, but the identity of the suspect remains unknown at this time.
