Workers Rescued From Collapsed Trench
A pair of workers were saved Monday afternoon by the Macomb County Technical Rescue Team.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI β A pair of construction workers were rescued from a collapsed trench near Rosso Highway and Jefferson Avenue in Chesterfield Township Monday evening. The men became buried up to their waists when the foundation for a basement they were working on collapsed, according to a Macomb Daily report.
Members of the Macomb County Technical Rescue Team extricated the men after about three hours of steady work. They were treated on-scene and then transported to McLaren Macomb hospital in Mount Clemens in stable condition. The two men work working about 10 feet underground the collapse happened at about 2:30 p.m.
βHad they been down a little deeper, they may not have been able to breathe,β said Chesterfield Township Fire Chief Doug Charbonneau. βThey were very lucky.β
βFire officials said it appears the workers didnβt use a proper trench box or shoring techniques to stabilize the walls. The boards they used caved in.β
