1-800 Flowers Closes Dearborn Location

Store owner Amy Guzzardo says lack of parking options in the West Village shopping center led to the store's closure.

1-800-Flowers, a floral and gift retailer in downtown Dearborn, closed its doors abruptly on March 18.

Store owner Amy Guzzardo said the decision to close the store, located at 22199 Michigan Ave., was due primarily to the lack of parking available in the West Village shopping center.

"We've been debating closing the Dearborn store for awhile," Guzzardo said. "Our lease was up this month and we either had to renew for another five years, or close the store."

Guzzardo said she informed her employees about the decision to close the store and offered to provide jobs at her other franchise locations.

"(Closing the store) wasn't a surprise to the employees," she said. "They knew it was coming. We had a lot of complaints from customers about parking and we had to do something."

Guzzardo, who owns other flower shops in Shelby Township and Ferndale, said she is currently looking for another location in Dearborn.

"We're interested in keeping 1-800 Flowers in the city," she said. "We're currently exploring other locations with better parking."
