5 Ways to Keep a Healthy Mouth

Maintaining a beautiful smile goes beyond brushing your teeth.

It's October and time to talk about teeth, in honor of National Dental Hygiene Month. 

Dentists agree that having a healthy mouth is important for the overall well-being of a person's body. The Michigan Dental Association shares these five tips for maintaining a healthful smile. 

1. Drink plenty of water.


2. Limit juices, sports drinks and pop.


3. Use a straw because it limits the amount of time the beverage touches your teeth.


4. Eat healthy snacks — not too many sweets.


5. Brush twice a day, floss once a day and use a fluoride rinse.
