Colossal I-75 Closure Going Into Effect On Feb. 4
The Michigan Department of Transportation reports that the huge closure is so crews can work on the 50-year-old Rouge River Bridge.

WAYNE COUNTY, MI — We are two days away from a huge chunk of I-75 South shutting down. On Saturday, Feb. 4, I-75 South will close between Springwells in Detroit to Goddard with re-entry at Allen/Northline in Taylor/Southgate, according to a notice from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). MDOT reports that there will be one lane open from 96 to Springwells for "residents, businesses, and deliveries." The closure is expected to last about a year, before crews then get to work on the other side of I-75.
Below are specific details of road conditions and closures effective Feb. 4, courtesy of the official bulletin from the Michigan Department of Transportation:
Detour is 96 westbound to 275 southbound to 75 southbound in Monroe. Local traffic may use M-85/Fort St or county roads, Jefferson or Dix, and heavy traffic is expected on those roads.94 westbound to other southbound roads, (M-39/Southfield or US-24/Telegraph) may also see heavier traffic.
The colossal closure is so crews can work on the roughly 50-year-old Rouge River Bridge, which needs a new bridge deck according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. The project is a massive undertaking, as the Rouge River Bridge is the largest bridge in Michigan, measuring 1.63 miles, and over 37 million vehicles buzz along it every year, zipping between Detroit and Downriver communities or Canada.
