Concert Set For May 7 At Guardian Lutheran Church

General admission tickets are $15 at the door, $13 in advance and $6 for students.

From Vanguard Voices & Brass: Vanguard Voices & Brass, directed by G. Kevin Dewey, will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a performance of old and new favorites on Sunday, May 7, at Dearborn’s Guardian Luther Church, beginning at 4 p.m. The concert will feature works for voices and brass—“Te Deum” (John Rutter), “Psalm 13” (G. Kevin Dewey), and “Agincourt Song” (arranged by Samuel Adler).

The 65-voice mixed chorus will also perform a cappella works by William Byrd (“Sing Joyfully” and “Ave Verum Corpus”) and Norah Duncan IV (a new arrangement of the spiritual “Hold On!”). The 24-voice Vanguard Chorale will sing Franz Biebl’s popular “Ave Maria;” Healey Willan’s “Rise Up, My Love, My Fair One;” and the energetic “Rejoice and Sing Out His Praises” by Mark Hayes.

Vanguard Brass Ensemble will present works by J. S. Bach, Paul Dukas, and Giovanni Gabrieli. The concert will end with “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” Kirby Shaw’s rousing arrangement of the Simon and Garfunkel classic.
