Dearborn Animal Shelter Speaker Series Features SASHA Farm Co-Founder

As part of an ongoing monthly presentation series to promote animal fostering and welfare, the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter is hosting Dorothy Davies, co-founder of SASHA Farm.

SASHA Farm was has recently received media coverage for their part in rescuing nearly 3,000 hens from an industrial egg farm in California. Thanks to an anonymous donor, the hens were removed from the farm and flown by private jet to a sanctuary in New York, where a volunteer from SASHA was able to adopt 100 of the hens and drive them to the farm in Manchester, Mich.

The “Friends of the Month” speaker and movie series is held on the first Thursday of each month. Each month the FFDAS features a special speaker and/or movie that promotes animal welfare.

The event will be held on Oct. 3 in the auditorium at the Henry Ford Centennial Library. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the presentation starting at 6:30 p.m. The library is located at 16301 Michigan Ave.

The event is free and open to the public. Donations to the FFDAS are encouraged but are not required for admittance. Also, donations are being accepted in order to purchase at least one round bale of hay for SASHA Farm. At a cost of $80, one round bale of hay can feed most of the farm’s animals for at least one day. With the rising cost of hay, feeding the farm’s animals takes up nearly two-thirds of the organization’s budget.

SASHA Farm (Sanctuary And Safe Haven for Animals) is the Midwest’s largest farm-animal sanctuary that specializes in nurturing and fostering abandoned, abused and neglected farm animals by providing veterinarian care and a loving environment.

The mission of SASHA Farm is to provide a safe and secure environment, lifetime care and medical treatment for unwanted, neglected, misused, and abused farmed and domestic animals, as well as fostering through education a better understanding of these animals.
