Dearborn Heights Councilman Resigns

A Dearborn Heights councilman recently resigned with a 'heavy heart' and 'much regret.'

DEARBORN, MI — Thomas Berry recently resigned from the Dearborn Heights City Council. He cited personal reasons for the decision, which was effective May 16. City Council will appoint a replacement for the remainder of his term.

“During my tenure as councilperson, I have had the honor of working with many well-intended, good natured, loyal and hardworking people,” Berry wrote in his resignation letter. “While I have made mistakes, I have learned as well. The greatest pain of public service are the sacrifices a person must make of themselves and those near and dear to them. Unfortunately, I can no longer make those sacrifices and I must turn my attention inward.”

Berry added that he was he was resigning “with a heavy heart and with much regret.” Berry, who had filed for the Aug. 8 primary to run for another term, had served on city council since 2005, according to a Dearborn Press & Guide report.
