DEARBORN, MI — Toronto Blue Jays pitcher and Dearborn native Anthony Bass took to his Twitter account over the weekend to take issue with the way United Airlines handled a matter of some spilled popcorn that he says his pregnant wife was “made” to clean up on a recent flight.

Bass, who pitched collegiately at nearby Wayne State, posted a photo of his two daughters on the flight and chastised the United flight attendant who made his wife, who is 22 weeks pregnant, “get on her hands and knees” to pick up the popcorn spilled by his two daughters who are 5 and 2.

“Are you kidding me?” Bass tweeted.

The post prompted a swift reaction from Twitter followers, who took issue with the Bass’ wife’s parenting skills for allowing the girls to spill popcorn on the floor without cleaning it up. Bass’ wife, Sydney Rae Bass, is the sister of country music star Jessie James Decker, who also took to social media about the incident.

Decker wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post that a flight attendant arrived at the seats and informed the woman that the captain wanted her to clean up “every drop.”

"My poor sister is on her hands and knees, crying in the aisle, completely humiliated and exhausted, with her children while everyone else watched,” Decker wrote. “Way to go, United.”

Bass, who has played for seven different Major League teams in his career, is in his second stint with the Blue Jays. He has appeared in eight games this season and has a 7.38 ERA.

Bass exchanged with tweets with followers, one of whom he referred to as the “perfect parent” who “can do no wrong” after one person tweeted that his wife needed to be a “decent human being” if she was going to give her kids popcorn on a plane and said that she should be responsible for cleaning up after the kids.

Bass said his wife has been cleared to fly for a few more weeks and later tweeted that United had provided the girls with the popcorn, not his wife.

In one final statement, Bass thanked everyone for their support and said that United is taking care of the matter internally with the flight attendant.
