Dearborn Police catch would-be purse snatcher with victim's help.

DEARBORN, MI — A 29-year-old Inkster man was arrested Friday by Dearborn Police after allegedly stealing a woman’s purse. Kevin Allen Pittiman Jr. was charged with unarmed robbery, larceny from a person, obstructing justice, and habitual offender fourth notice as a result of the incident, which occurred at about 11:55 p.m. in the area of Ternes and Arthur streets.

Officers arrived on the scene minutes after incident, according to police reports. The victim told officers that she had just entered a friend’s vehicle when Pittiman approached her and forcibly took her purse from her lap. He then fled the scene. Reports said a witness provided officers information.

A brief foot pursuit followed before officers apprehended Pittiman. He was subsequently arraigned in Dearborn district court and his bond was set at $100,000 cash. A probable cause conference is scheduled for June 16 and a preliminary examination will follow on June 23.

“The victim’s attention to detail regarding the suspect was very helpful in this case,” Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said. “We are also grateful that a citizen took the initiative to contact the police immediately upon seeing suspicious activity. This combined with a great response time from my officers allowed us to remove a dangerous criminal from the streets.”
