Dearborn Public Schools Sued By Board Member

A Dearborn Public Schools board member has sued the district over the appointment of another board member.

DEARBORN, MI — Board of Education Trustee Hussein Berry has sued Dearborn Public Schools over the appointment of Celia Nasser to the Board. The suit, which asks for an injunction to block the appointment, names the district and Board President Mary Lane as defendants and also seeks $25,000 in damages.

“It’s a very sad, sad day that I have to file this suit,” Berry said. “I don’t want to do this.” He added that his attorney is still looking into his concerns that the Open Meetings Act was violated during the appointment process.
“I realize this wasn’t an easy process,” Nasser said of her appointment. However, she said she was determined to be a dedicated board member. “I will strive to listen to all and represent every corner of the district,” Nasser said.
