Dearborn Public Schools will be working with the Dearborn Police Department next week to better familiarize officers with our school buildings.

Friday, Dec. 17, 2021 is the last day of school before the winter break.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 21 and 22, school district staff and Dearborn Police officers will visit all the schools to allow police officers to become more familiar with the layout of each building.  Dearborn Schools has 37 schools spread across 32 buildings.

Parents and community members should not be alarmed if they see a large police presence at any of our schools during the week of Christmas.  

Each school in Dearborn Public Schools has an emergency plan specific to that building. For example, each building would have certain doors that classrooms would use to evacuate and have specific areas where students would regroup. Those emergency plans are regularly reviewed and updated with input from the police department.

The police visits next week will help officers visualize those plans and give them a better understanding of each school’s layout.

“We are thankful for the wonderful partnership we have with the Dearborn Police Department and for the unwavering support from Chief Haddad,” said Superintendent Glenn Maleyko. “With students and most staff out of school, the winter break is a great time for Dearborn Police to spend some time in our buildings without interrupting learning or upsetting students or staff.  This effort is just part of the district’s long-standing work to prepare for any possible emergency, and we thank Dearborn Police for their support. ”
