Dearborn Treats Parks, Grassy Areas With Pesticides

Parents will want to keep their children and pets off the grass in these areas. Here's a look at the pesticide schedule in Dearborn.

DEARBORN, MI– As a heads up to families, the city is doing some upkeep in the local parks and green spaces that include the use of chemicals. In order to keep Dearborn’s parks enjoyable throughout the summer, the Department of Public Works is treating grassy areas with a pesticide to discourage weed growth, city officials announced.

The weed work will start beginning Thursday, June 6.

The pesticide used is the same that is available to consumers for residential applications, according to the city. Officials say ample signage will be posted at the parks announcing the activity.

This process is done each year, officials said, and it will take several business days to complete the process across the designated parks in the city. The remaining parks that require treatment are Levagood, Hemlock, Crowley, Ford Field, Penn-Vasser and Ten Eyck.

Pesticide applications are also scheduled to take place around the Dearborn Administrative Center, the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, and the Police and 19th District Court buildings on Wednesday, June 5.
