Divine Child Cross Country Teams to Run at State Finals

After winning regional championships last week, Falcons will compete at MIS on Saturday.

The boys and girls cross country teams from have enjoyed quite a run this fall.

And the Falcons will look for one more good run at the Division 2 state finals at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday.

The Division 2 girls race will start at 1:30 p.m., and the Division 2 boys race will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Divine Child’s girls cross country team is No. 8 in the state coaches’ poll. Runners for the Falcons are Michelle Kerr, Lindsey Brewis, MacKenzie Brewis, Jackie White, Angelica Arriola, Anne Okonowski and Stephanie Norwood.

For the boys, runners are Nicholas Soter, Griffin Miller,  Zachary Welker, Dane Miller, Michael Brichta, John Fenech and Matthew Mangulabnan.

Zine Nassr, a junior at , will compete as an individual in the Division 1 meet.

Both Divine Child teams advanced to the finals after winning the regional championship at Lake Erie Metropark in Monroe on Oct. 29.

For the boys, Soter finished first overall for the Falcons with a time of 16:46. Miller placed second with a time of 17:26.27.

The Divine Child girls had the top-three finishers at the regional meet.

Kerr was first overall in 20:46.17, Lindsey Brewis was second in 21:09.73, and MacKenzie Brewis was third in 21:11.17.

Thanks to those performances, the Falcons will run for a state title Saturday afternoon.
