Memorial Day 2017: Parade Will Close Roads In Dearborn

DEARBORN, MI — The best place to watch Dearborn’s Memorial Day Parade on Monday is in front of the Henry Ford Centennial Library, located at 16301 Michigan Avenue. The Remembrance Ceremony will take place at noon there, following the parade.

There are some parking restrictions, so attendees may want to park in the south parking lot of the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center and walk to the front of the library. Access to The Center and to the library is only via Greenfield Road. Enter at Reckinger Road, which is a quarter mile south of Michigan Avenue. Traffic will be maintained on Greenfield Road throughout the parade.

Michigan Avenue from just east of Southfield, to Bingham, will be closed starting at 8 a.m. There is a symbolic funeral procession at 9:40 a.m. and then the parade starts at 10 a.m.

Schaefer Road will remain open during the parade, and is the only access for parade participants who need to get to the staging area in the Neckel parking lot, north of Michigan Avenue. This is sometimes referred to as the “Dearborn Fresh” parking lot. Parade participants may park in the Calhoun lot, accessed via Schaefer as well.

The parade will not be broadcast live on CDTV, the government access channel. However, it will be shown repeatedly throughout Memorial Day week. It will be on at 4 p.m. on May 31 and June 1, at 8 p.m. on June 2, at 7 p.m. on June 3; and at 3 p.m. on June 4. It can also be viewed on www.cityofdearborn.org starting June 2.
