'Muslim Ban 2.0' March Set For Friday in Dearborn

Organizers have called for a march starting in Dearborn and concluding in Detroit to fight President Trump's new executive order.

DEARBORN, MI β€” A march and rally against President Donald Trump’s so-called β€œMuslim Ban 2.0” will be held Friday in Dearborn. The march, which will begin at 1 p.m., will start out at 9945 Vernor Highway in Dearborn and conclude in Patton Park in Detroit.

Organizers said the march will join forces with other minorities at the park, where several speeches will be heard. The protest will address Trump’s March 6 executive order as well as the random Immigrant Customs & Enforcement (ICE) on ordinary undocumented immigrants.

The new order imposes a 90-day ban on travelers from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. It also exempts permanent residents and current visa holders, and drops language offering preferential status to persecuted religious minorities, the New York Times reported.

The new order cuts the number of refugees admitted to the United States each year to 50,000 from about 110,000. The New York Times also reported that the president is leaving open the possibility of expanding the ban to other countries, including Iraq.
