Part Of This Dearborn Road Will Close On Weekends For Safety Reasons
Officials say the closure will provide a safer and more accessible traffic route for pedestrians and bicyclists.

DEARBORN, MI — Part of a Dearborn road will be closed on weekends through the rest of the summer for safety reasons.
Starting Friday, part of West Village Drive between Mason and Monroe streets will be closed on weekends from 3 p.m. on Friday through 7 a.m. on Monday through Sept. 30.
The barriers, which are funded through the West Dearborn Development Authority, will be installed each weekend from a private parking lot near 22060 West Village Drive to Monroe Street.

"This trial project allows for residents and visitors in west Dearborn to be able to safely travel between businesses and events on the weekends in this lively business corridor and public space, thereby bolstering economic activity. It also allows our business owners to expand outdoor seating during summer months," Dearborn Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud said.
City officials worked with Dearborn’s Economic Development, Public Works, Police, and Fire departments to launch the program. Officials will review the results of the project at the end of this year to determine if it will be a reoccurring program in the future.
"West downtown is an essential public space that is bustling with activity. Through this project we want to amplify opportunities for our many visitors and their families to safely and enjoyably participate in events and shop and dine, creating the best possible experience for all," Dearborn’s Economic Development Department Director Jordan Twardy said.
