1. Free money for college: Apply for HFC scholarships Jan. 1–March 31 (hfcc.edu) — Dearborn students connected to Henry Ford College can now apply for more than 150 Foundation scholarships between January 1 and March 31, 2026, with awards announced in late spring. One general online application automatically matches you to eligible funds, and some extra opportunities are available with short essays or recommendations, helping reduce college costs for local families.

2. Wayne County Drivers Save $539 Per Year Following Michigan Insurance Reform (wrif.com) — If you drive in Dearborn, you’re part of Wayne County’s big car insurance savings after Michigan’s 2019 no-fault reform, averaging $539 less per year by 2024. The law let drivers choose lower personal injury protection and banned ZIP code and credit-based pricing. While more insurers entered the market and costs dropped, some critics worry about accident victims’ access to long-term care.

3. A new crop of coffee shops to visit in Rochester in 2026. See the list (thetimesherald.com) — Dearborn gets a nod as the birthplace of Bayt Al Mocha, the Yemeni coffee brand behind Rochester’s new Mocha House café. The piece mainly guides Rochester-area readers through a wave of 2025 coffee shop openings, highlighting late-night Yemeni-style hangouts, vegan options, and neighborhood-focused cafés that reflect changing social habits away from alcohol-centered gathering spots.

4. Preview: Jets at Leafs (pensionplanpuppets.com) — A Toronto Maple Leafs injury update briefly spotlights forward Dakota Joshua, who is recovering after leaving a Detroit hospital and spending time with family in his hometown of Dearborn. The preview breaks down Winnipeg’s recent struggles, Toronto’s lineup changes, and which Leafs are returning or still sidelined ahead of the Jets matchup.
