Dearborn school buses add exterior cameras (fox2detroit.com) — Dearborn is rolling out exterior cameras on school buses to catch drivers who illegally pass when stop signs are extended, with tickets issued by mail. City leaders say Dearborn is the first in Michigan to adopt this violator-funded program, which starts with a warning period now and full enforcement beginning Jan. 19.

2. Men Receive Life Sentences in Home Invasion Murder of Jeweler (nationaljeweler.com) — Two men from Dearborn have been sentenced to life in prison for the 2024 home invasion murder of a 72-year-old jeweler in Rochester Hills. Prosecutors say the pair posed as utility workers, killed the victim in his basement, and stole cash, costume jewelry, and other items. A judge added lengthy terms for unlawful imprisonment, while the victim’s family described their ongoing grief.

3. Michigan gas prices up three cents since last week, down three cents in metro Detroit (wxyz.com) — Dearborn drivers are paying about $2.86 per gallon for gas, a slight drop from last week and 16 cents less than a year ago. Statewide, prices average $2.85, with some cities paying more and northern Michigan areas seeing the lowest prices. The report highlights how much less a full tank costs compared with last year’s peak.

University Staff United pickets outside Winter Commencement (michigandaily.com) — Staff at the University of Michigan’s Dearborn campus are protesting proposed raises they say don’t keep up with rising living costs, especially compared with Ann Arbor workers. A new union, University Staff United, picketed Winter Commencement to push for larger across-the-board increases and living wages.
