Operating under the influence of drugs
A 23-year-old man was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs in Dearborn on March 23.
According to police reports, while on routine patrol, officers observed a black Dodge make an illegal stop at a red light near eastbound Michigan Avenue and Maple Road. Police said the vehicle was stopped 20 feet beyond the traffic line, impeding nearby traffic.
Officers made contact with the driver near Jonathon Road south of Michigan Avenue. Upon speaking with the man, officers noticed his glossy eyes and slurred speech. The driver admitted to officers that he had taken two Vicodin and Xanax earlier in the evening, police said.
He also had no valid driver's license in Michigan and a suspended license from the state of Arizona, police said.
Officers contacted the man's mother, who informed them that her son did not have permission to use her vehicle.
After failing a field sobriety test, the driver was arrested and transported to Oakwood Hospital for a blood draw. Officers issued the man a citation for impeding traffic, being an unlicensed motor vehicle operator, and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
