U.S. Marks 12th Anniversary of 9/11 With Solemn Ceremonies

A peace pole is a hand-crafted monument that displays the message and prayer "May Peace Prevail on Earth" on each of its four or six sides, usually in different languages. There are more than 200,000 peace poles in 180 countries all over the world dedicated as monuments to peace. They serve as constant reminders for us to visualize and pray for world peace.

3. Participate in the 9/11 Day of Service

This event was created to provide a positive way to forever remember and pay tribute to the 9/11 victims, honor those that rose in service in response to the attacks, and remind people of the importance of working more closely together in peace to improve our world. 4. Stop by the Dearborn firehouse or police department to say thanks

It's hard to imagine living in Dearborn without the 24-hour protection of our police force and fire departments. Thankfully, we don't have to. Make sure you take time to "thank" a member of the police or fire departments today by dropping off a card or some homemade cookies.

5. Write an essay

Michigan Remembers sponsors an essay contest for high school students. Students are asked to write a reflection on the impact of 9/11. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 30. The winning essayist will win $500, with $300 going to second place, and $200 for an honorable mention. You can find more information at www.michiganremembers.org.
