METRO DETROIT — A snowstorm is expected to hit the metro Detroit area this weekend, just days after an ice storm battered the region, according to the National Weather Service.
The widespread snowstorm is expected to move into the metro Detroit area Saturday, as temperatures remain below freezing, according to the weather service.
Forecasters expect the storm to dump between 2 and 4 inches of fresh snow across the region by Saturday night, according to the weather service.

The snow will cross the region just days after freezing rain created slippery conditions and closed hundreds of schools across metro Detroit. Areas south of Interstate 94 saw the highest amounts of ice Thursday morning, according to the weather service.
A Winter Weather Advisory ranging from north of the Ohio border to Interstate 69 expired at 9 a.m. Thursday as temperatures in the region are expected to climb toward 40 degrees by the afternoon hours, according to the weather service.

A cold front then moves back into the area overnight, knocking temperatures back below freezing for Friday and setting the stage for Saturday's snowstorm, according to the weather service.
