4 Inches Of Snow Possible Friday: MI Weather

METRO DETROIT — A Friday snowstorm could dump up to 4 inches of snow in metro Detroit, according to the National Weather Service.

The snow is expected to move into southeastern Michigan in the early afternoon hours Friday, according to the weather service.

Peak snowfall will occur between 2 and 8 p.m. when more than a quarter inch of snowfall per hour is possible, resulting in quick accumulations of 1 to 2 inches, according to the weather service.

The snowmaker will then lose intensity during the evening hours and fade away overnight, according to the weather service.

Forecasters expect between 3 and 4 inches of fresh snow by Saturday morning in most areas across southeastern Michigan. Only the Thumb region may see slightly less snow, according to the weather service.

Forecasters also warned the snow will create slippery roads, especially during Friday's evening commute.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for all of southeastern Michigan beginning 1 p.m. on Friday until 1 a.m. on Saturday.

Areas in west Michigan along the Lake Michigan shoreline can see more than 6 inches of snow by Saturday morning, according to the weather service.

Areas in mid-Michigan will see between 1 and 3 inches of snow, while less snow is expected even farther north into northern Michigan where forecasters expect only 1 to 2 inches, according to the weather service.

Another round of light snow is possible across southeastern Michigan overnight Sunday, leading to slippery roads for the Monday morning commute, according to the weather service.

After that, another round of arctic air will move into southeastern Michigan, pushing temperatures back down into the 20s and low teens, according to the weather service.
