Boy, 17, Charged In Wayne County High-Speed Chase: Police

Police said the boy was driving a stolen car and sped away from officers who tried stopping the car in Wayne County.

GARDEN CITY, MI — A 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with a high-speed police chase early Wednesday morning, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

The boy, who was not identified, was charged with third-degree fleeing police, receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle, reckless driving as well as driving without a license.

He was placed in jail with a $5,000 bond. If he is released from jail, he will have to wear a tether, cannot drive a motor vehicle and not use illegal drugs. His next court date is scheduled for Feb. 18.

The police chase started at 2 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Ford and Venoy roads in Garden City where officers spotted a stolen vehicle, according to the office.

When officers tried stopping the car, the driver sped away from them, according to the office.

During the pursuit, the driver tried to strike the officer’s vehicle with the stolen vehicle, according to the office.

Officers chased the stolen car through multiple Wayne County communities before it eventually ended at the intersection of Bluehill Street and Denver Street in Detroit where officers arrested the driver in connection with the chase, according to the office.
