Detroit Health Department Animal Care is extending a heartfelt thank you to the volunteers and community partners who stepped up to place many stray dogs and cats over the course of a three-day ‘Dog Days of Summer’ event last weekend that resulted in the placement of 14 animals through adoption, transferred 35 to other facilities and returned six to their owners.

As of Monday, August 2nd, Detroit Animal Care was holding 71 dogs and 11 cats (the facility’s cat pens sustained damage from flooding following a recent severe rain event).

“On behalf of the entire team, I want to thank our placement partners for making last week’s ‘Dog Days of Summer’ adoption initiative such a success,” said Mark Kumpf, director of Animal Care. “We were able to save many dogs and cats. The real thanks also go to Detroiters, who continue to open their hearts and their homes to animals in need.”
