Conservative Commentator Announces Run For Michigan Governor

Tudor Dixon has announced she intends to run for the Republican nomination in the race against Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2022.

LANSING, MI — Tudor Dixon, a conservative commentator from Michigan, has announced she is running for the Republican nomination in Michigan's 2022 gubernatorial race.

In an announcement posted Thursday morning on her personal Twitter account, Dixon said she is "excited to announce that I am running for Governor to get Michigan back on track."

"We will restore our state and help Michiganders build their American Dream once again!" Dixon tweeted. "Let’s do this Michigan!"

Dixon is the host of "American's Voice Live," which runs on the right-wing program Real America's Voice. Fox News reported that Dixon has been critical of Whitmer's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, repeatedly slamming her on social media and other outlets.

Rumors regarding whether Dixon would run in 2022 began last month. A nonprofit called Tudor Dixon for Governor, Inc. was formed on April 14, MLive reported, citing state business records.

The conservative commentator appears to have support from some on social media, with many people reaching out to show their approval of her announcement.

"I am proud to support Tudor, someone I consider to be among the most honest and honorable I have ever met," conservative radio host Steve Gruber tweeted Thursday. "Tudor's work ethic is second to none and her motivation to be Governor of Michigan is pure. She simply believes she can do better- for all of us. I wish her the very best!"

Dixon's name is another in a growing list that is being attached to the question of, "Who will oppose Whitmer in 2022?" Other names include Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, businessman John James and retiring Detroit Police Chief James Craig.

McDaniel reportedly spoke to people about potentially stepping down from her position in order to run against Whitmer, as she reportedly has become tired of the governor's COVID-19 policies and how they relate to schools.

The jury appears to still be out on James, who had not formally said he intends to run.

Craig, who announced his retirement from the Detroit Police Department last week, said he wouldn't rule out running in 2022.

"I have not made that decision," Craig said. "I'm not ruling it out. There's an appropriate time. I will get past this and then I will come out (with) the decision."
