​Dearborn Heights Man Accused In Southfield Freeway Shooting

A Dearborn Heights man has been accused of shooting a 31-year-old Detroit woman July 11.

DETROIT, MI — A 28-year-old Dearborn Heights man has been accused by Wayne County prosecutors in the non-fatal shooting of a Detroit woman on Southfield Freeway on July 11.

Devonte Andre Burton is charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, discharging a firearm from a moving vehicle causing serious impairment, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a firearm with unlawful intent, and five counts of felony firearm, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said that at 5:51 p.m. July 11, Michigan State Police troopers and Detroit Police officers responded to the area of the Southfield Freeway and West McNichols following reports of a shooting. When the officers arrived, they said the found a 31-year-old Detroit woman with a gunshot wound. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment, prosecutors said.

Burton was arrested following investigation by MSP and Detroit Police, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said Burton was arraigned this week in 36th District Court and will appear again in court July 24 for a probable cause conference. Burton's bond was set at $225,000, prosecutors said.
