DETROIT — Detroit was ranked among the top 52 places in the world to visit in an annual New York Times list that features the best places to travel to each year.
Detroit came in at No. 39 and was praised for its "remarkable signs of renewal," the Times' Lauren Matison wrote.
In the entry, Matison noted the Gordie Howe International Bridge, which is scheduled to be completed later this year, the upcoming Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park on the riverfront and the revitalized Michigan Central Station.

"The 1.5-mile Gordie Howe International Bridge will be North America’s longest cable-stayed bridge when it opens in the fall, connecting motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to Windsor, Ontario, and the Trans Canada Trail," Matison wrote. "Public art and signs near the U.S. and Canadian ports of entry on both sides of the bridge commemorate the Underground Railroad, reminding visitors of the thousands of African Americans who fled enslavement into Canada or found sanctuary in Detroit."
