Detroit Mayor Orders Columbus Statue Removed
A bust of Christopher Columbus in Detroit was removed Monday and placed in storage.

DETROIT, MI — Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan ordered that a bust of Christopher Columbus featured in the city be removed Monday following weeks of protest against police brutality and racism, according to reports.
The bust was removed Monday and will be placed in storage as the city decides what to do with the monument going forward, according to a report by ClickOnDetroit.
The bust has long been a target of vandalism in recent years, ClickOnDetroit reported. Columbus statues around the nation have been the target of vandalism in recent days in the wake of the death of George Floyd and the ensuing protests, The Associated Press reported.
