Detroit Police Officer Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash: Cops

Two people have been arrested in connection with the crash, but officers were still looking for the suspected driver, according to police.

DETROIT — An off-duty Detroit Police officer was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning, according to police.

The crash happened at 12:09 a.m. Sunday morning in the area of Hoover and Greiner streets on the city's eastside, according to police.

Officer Cameron Richardson, 32, was moving north in a Jeep on Hoover Street where he was struck by a white van that was trying to turn left at the intersection, according to police.

The Jeep rolled over and Richardson was killed in the crash, according to police.

The white van sped away from the intersection, but was quickly found a short distance away, according to police.

Two people who inside the van were arrested in connection with the crash, but officers were still looking for the suspected driver, whom they believe is a 28-year-old man, according to police.

Officers also found a gun inside the van, according to police.

Police described Richardson, who was also a military veteran, as a family man with two daughters.
