Man Injured Along I-96 In Detroit In Hit-And-Run Crash: Police

Police said the man's car ran out of gas on the freeway, and he was walking to get more gas when he was hit.

DETROIT — Police are looking for the driver involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a man injured along Interstate 96 in Detroit over the weekend, according to Michigan State Police.

The crash happened at 2:45 a.m. Saturday in the westbound lanes on the freeway near the Greenfield Road exit, according to police.

Police said the man's car ran out of gas on the right shoulder of the freeway in the area. The man and his passenger exited the car and began to walk up the Greenfield exit ramp to get more gas, police said.

A vehicle then struck the man and never stopped at the scene, police said.

Several witnesses stopped to help the injured man, police said.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

Investigators believe the suspect's vehicle was black based on debris found at the scene.

No other details were released.
